Trapped ions are among the leading candidates for quantum computing. Scaling poses significant challenges however, requiring both new technologies and approaches, which can be fabricated and operated at large scales.
I will show how microtrap integrated optics can be used to solve the laser light delivery challenge, while a new approach using micro-Penning traps increases ion transport flexibility and can reduce requirements on chip traps
