Precision experiments probing the properties of neutrons and details of their decay can reveal important information for both particle and astrophysics.

Such experiments address discrete symmetries, open the door to a new Goldhaber experiment and provide key information to understand primordial nucleosynthesis. For many such experiments the storage of neutrons, allowing long observation times, are of pivotal importance. Such ultra cold neutrons can be generated from fission or spallation based neutron sources. The talk will give insights into the techniques employed and introduce several of the experiments presently being prepared.
