“Women in Quantum Optics” Postdoc Program is ready for take-off
With a two-year postdoctoral fellowship and wide-ranging training opportunities, the MPQ aims to provide even greater support for excellent young female quantum scientists and their career development.
The MPQ is launching the long-planned career initiative "Women in Quantum Optics" - WiQO for short - aimed at young female scientists in the quantum sciences. As part of the programme, female candidates will receive a two-year postdoctoral fellowship, as well as access to various training opportunities or coaching, for example on career planning.
"We are proud of this new initiative and very much hope to attract more female physicists that are enthusiastic about quantum sciences and that will enrich the unique research in our institute," explains MPQ Managing Director Ignacio Cirac.
Thanks to the scientific excellence and first-class infrastructure at MPQ, WiQO candidates will enjoy an ideal research environment. Supervised by scientists from the institute, WiQO postdocs lead their own research project and also benefit from the excellent networking of the institute: depending on the respective interests, the MPQ offers, for example, insights into the Laboratory for Attosecond Physics of Ferenc Krausz (Attoworld), the Cluster of Excellence Munich Center for Quantum Science and Technology (MCQST) and the alliance Munich Quantum Valley (MQV).
In addition, WiQO also aims to actively support the career prospects and personal development of female postdoc researchers. For this purpose, a wide range of special training courses are available, e.g. on leadership culture, project management, entrepreneurship or science communication, as well as individual coachings for career planning. Candidates are also invited to participate in existing networking and mentoring programmes of the Max Planck Society (Minerva FemmeNet) and the Cluster of Excellence MCQST (Women in QST).
Further information on the WiQO programme and the application can be found here. The MPQ looks forward to receiving applications. In a two-stage application process, female candidates who successfully pass the first round will be invited to the MPQ Postdoc Interview Days in July 2023.
