*Abstract*:

The area law for entanglement entropy of local, gapped 1D systems supports the success of DMRG algorithm. In more general cases like higher dimensions, rigorous proof however remains missing. In this talk I want to discuss two recent papers that give area laws for
1. 1D gapped systems with long range interaction (https://www.nature.com/articles/s41467-020-18055-x) and
2. 2D local, gapped and non-frustrated spin systems (http://arxiv.org/abs/2103.02492).
They apply the same approach called approximate-ground-state-projection (AGSP). I will try to follow their proofs.

We begin at 11h with an informal discussion and continue with the talk at 11:20.
