Abstract:

Knowing the distribution of the energy eigenstates of a quantum many-body problem is very important since it gives access to the partition function and consequently to all the thermodynamic properties of the system. In this talk I will present the density of states (DOS) of the lattice Schwinger model that was calculated using a recently introduced tensor network method. I will present the dependence of the DOS on the system size and the lattice spacing and show that the shape of the DOS changes dramatically between a lattice-dominated regime, where it is highly asymmetrical and a continuum-like regime, in which it resembles a Gaussian distribution. I will then present how we can use the DOS to calculate different observables in the canonical ensemble and mention the limitations of our method.
