Quantum Info & Computing Meeting: Defining symmetry protected topological phases for open systems with string order parameters

In this talk we will first go through the framework of symmetry protected topological (SPT) phases for closed systems, and show how non-local order parameters (namely string order parameters) can uniquely detect these phases.

Abstract:

In this talk we will first go through the framework of symmetry protected topological (SPT) phases for closed systems, and show how non-local order parameters (namely string order parameters) can uniquely detect these phases. We will then use this introductory part to discuss the extension to a consistent notion of SPT phases for open systems, and will see the practical implications by studying master equation evolution under certain classes of Kraus operators, based on symmetry.

This is from an upcoming work together with Alex Turzillo and Norbert Schuch.
