Abstract:

The topology of non-hermitian systems has recently gained a lot of attention due to its possible use in amplification, sensing or laser physics. Although the topological description of these systems is currently being unraveled, the relation with their experimental realization and observation still is challenging. In this talk, I will show that the path integral method provides a clear way to connect both, and that in addition, it also uncovers certain fundamental aspects of these systems. Concretely, I will discuss the case of topological amplification and its description in terms of physical observables.
