Abstract:
In this seminar, I will give an introduction to the cluster expansion in its various shapes and colours. The cluster expansion is a perturbative technique that can be applied to real- and imaginary time evolution under local Hamiltonians. I will show that the expansion leads to an efficient classical algorithm for computing the evolution of product states up to a constant time. Similarly, in the context of imaginary time evolution, I will describe an efficient classical algorithm for computing local observables at high temperature. I will conclude by discussing open problems that may be amenable to this powerful tool.
