Abstract:

I will consider a general class of models with a local quantum system interacting with an environment described by a bosonic free field theory. I will talk about two aspects of these models:

What are the continuity properties of the unitary group describing dynamics of this model - is the unitary group strongly continuous, or not. While i do not yet have a definitive result on this question, I will describe some of the existing results for Markovian models and outline some approaches that can be used to generalize them to the non-Markovian case.

If the local system is many-body, then I will show that for a large class of physically reasonable non-Markovian models, the dynamics of the many-body system is in the BQP complexity class.
