Abstract:

Majorana zero modes (MZMs) in hybrid semiconductor-superconductor nanowires hold great promise for topological quantum computing. Though the unambiguous demonstration of MZMs is currently still lacking and in pursuit, the decade-long sustained efforts have already greatly advanced this field, from material growth to device fabrication, transport experiments and theory understandings. In this talk, I will first briefly review the history and current status, and then discuss our recent experimental progress in three aspects:
1) observation of large zero-bias peaks and peak-to-dip transition near 2e2/h as a new signature possibly connected to MZMs,
2) establishing a new experimental tool to filter out unwanted trivial zero-bias peaks, and 3) developing a new (or potentially better) MZM material candidate: PbTe-Pb hybrid nanowires.
