Abstract:

First, I will review some results regarding vacancy-like modes in systems of quantum emitters coupled to structured baths. In 1D topological insulators it has been shown that these vacancy-like modes are exactly like the edge states that appear in the nontrivial phase. I will argue that the analogous phenomenon in 2D Topological insulators is to find gapless single-particle models for 1D arrangements of emitters. Last, I will discuss the features of emitter superlattices and how the topology of the resulting polariton bands depends on the geometry of the arrangement and the light-matter coupling constant.
