Angela Merkel and Markus Söder are visiting the Max Planck Institute of Quantum Optics on 15th of September 2021
German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Söder are coming to take a direct look at the state of science in quantum research and technologies and the special research environment at MPQ.
On Wednesday, 15th of September 2021 from 2 to 3pm CET, the German Chancellor Angela Merkel and the Bavarian State Prime Minister Markus Söder are scheduled to visit the Max Planck Institute of Quantum Optics (MPQ) in Garching. The institute is considered a big hope for the development of future quantum technologies, and also plays a pivotal role in the Munich Quantum Valley (MQV) initiative that was launched in March 2021 with a funding of 300 million euros from the Bavarian state. Immanuel Bloch and Gerhard Rempe, two of the five institute directers, will give the two heads of government a tour through the special research facilities and the current state of quantum research at MPQ. Martin Stratmann, president of the Max Planck Society, and Rainer Blatt, head of the MQV, as well as the MPQ Directors Ignacio Cirac, Ferenc Krausz and Theodor Hänsch will be co-hosting the event.
