Abstract:

I will give an informal overview and discussion about one of my favourite facts in physics: the "eigenstate thermalization hypothesis" or ETH. This is fairly well established to be the underlying reason of why large quantum systems thermalize, since it is generically found in numerical calculations for small systems. Yet, after almost 30 years, it is still a "hypothesis". I will discuss the very many problems that attempting to prove it entails. I will also focus on its relation with different QI-related concepts such as random matrices or quantum error correction.

We begin at 11h with an informal discussion and continue with the talk at 11:20.
