Abstract:

Rydberg physics is in vogue these days. The strong interactions induced by the Rydberg atoms combined with the fact that they are highly tunable have led to a host of promising applications ranging from many-body physics, to quantum sensing and quantum simulations. Rydberg atoms have been around for quite a while now; well from at least 400,000 years after the birth of the Universe! In this work, I will make meandering walks into galactic and even extragalactic sources of Rydberg atoms, down to intriguing correlations and phases they imprint in quantum gases. I will even get into some new developments in how Rydberg excitations can be used to perform precise photometry of Supernovae dark energy surveys. Stay tuned.
