A recurring theme in optics and photonics is the ability of metal nanostructures to imbue man – made material (so – called metamaterial) with new functions possibly not found in nature.
Metallic nanoantennas are
one of the building blocks of such metamaterials that boast unusual linear and
nonlinear characteristics. In this talk, I will describe my recent
research on engineering the radiation pattern and polarisation of gold
nanoantennas so as to optimise various nonlinear frequency mixing processes
including Second Harmonic Generation.
