Falling Walls Award for Ignacio Cirac

November 08, 2021

Professor Ignacio Cirac, head of the Theory Group at the Max Planck Institute of Quantum Optics, is one of ten winners in the Physical Sciences category of this year's Falling Walls Award. The Falling Walls Foundation jury was impressed by the outstanding quality and relevance of Ignacio Cirac's research.

The award ceremony took place at the Falling Walls Science Summit in Berlin, between 7 to 9 November 2021. Two months before, the jury selected the "Breakthrough of the Year 2021" from among the ten winners of each category. This year, the award in the "Physical Sciences" category went to Elham Fadaly and Erik Bakkers from Eindhoven University of Technology.

To mark the award, the Falling Walls Foundation published on its website an introductory video produced by Ignacio Cirac - "How to compute electronic structures of molecules with analogue quantum chemistry"(https://falling-walls.com/discover/videos/how-to-compute-electronic-structures-of-molecules-with-analogue-quantum-chemistry/ ) - designed to give viewers an insight into the research questions and achievements of Professor Cirac and his research team.
