Thomas Udem wins ERC Advanced Grant of €2.5 million

Thomas Udem, group leader at the MPQ, has successfully acquired an ERC Advanced Grant with a volume of 2.5 million euros. He will use the funds to his project H-SPECTR to further advance precision experiments on the spectroscopy of atomic hydrogen and deuterium and thus gradually uncover new physics beyond the standard model. more

Mari Carmen Bañuls accepts a permanent W2 position

Dr Bañuls, group leader in the Theory Department at MPQ, has earned special recognition in her many years of excellent research of complex quantum systems, and is now starting her own W2 research group. Her research focuses on the development and application of tensor network methods for the numerical simulation of quantum many-body systems and quantum dynamic phenomena beyond equilibrium. more

<span><span><span><span>Nathalie Picqué accepts dual appointment in Berlin</span></span></span></span>

Nathalie Picqué, a pioneer in dual-comb spectroscopy, has commenced a director position at the Max Born Institute for Nonlinear Optics and Short Pulse Spectroscopy (MBI) in Berlin, where she will establish the Division of Precision Physics. In addition, the researcher has accepted a tenured professorship at Humboldt University. more

Cal-Bay Quantum School: Boosting Scientific Collaboration between Bavaria and California

To foster scientific collaboration and academic ties in quantum sciences between the two regions, the Cal-Bay Summer School was selected by the Bavaria California Technology Center (BaCaTec) as Wolfgang-Hillen-Summer School 2024 taking place from 9 until 14 June in Garching.  more
