The 16th of May we celebrate three events: the 60th birthday of the laser, the international day of light and the 25th jubilee of the famous paper of Ignacio Cirac and Peter Zoller on how to build a quantum computer with trapped ions - an epochal milestone on the way into the second quantum revolution. Join us for a series of labtours, live talks and quantum quizzes.
Jelena Vučković is professor in Stanford and a member of the MPQ's scientific advisor board. In an interview she explains why female role models are so important for young female scientists and what she thinks are crucial conditions for a succesful career in physics.
Annie Jihyun Park is a PhD candidate at the MPQ. Korean-born with a Canadian passport, she now works in Garching, where she develops a simulation experiment, with which she can explore the interactions between atoms. A very complex quantum physical investigation. But for a long time, she never would have thought that she would end up in physics let alone in quantum physics.
