Sensors are an essential part of our daily lives, enabling countless technological advances. In my talk, I would like to introduce the world's smallest sensor, which happens to be a defect in the structure of a diamond. This quantum system, the size of a single atom, has demonstrated an extraordinary ability to measure magnetic, electrical and temperature changes at unprecedented scales. I will give an overview of this cutting-edge topic and discuss its applications, including the analysis of new materials and improving the resolution of current magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for the study of single cells.
