Professor David Huse elected MPQ „Distinguished Scholar“

The Board of Directors of the Max Planck Institute of Quantum Optics has elected the theoretical physicist Prof. David A. Huse from Princeton University (USA, Princeton Institute for the Science and Technology of Materials) an MPQ Distinguished Scholar.

The MPQ Distinguished Scholar aims to promote cooperation with eminent scientists worldwide by inviting them to work in one of the scientific divisions for a period of three to six months within a period of up to three years. Prof. Huse has been nominated by Prof. Immanuel Bloch (Quantum Many-Body Systems Division) and Prof. Ignacio Cirac (Theory Division) and will visit their divisions several times in 2017. The certificate was handed over on the occasion of a lecture by Prof. Huse on 3rd February 2017.

Prof. Huse is a world class recognized expert in the fields of statistical physics and quantum many-body physics. He has made outstanding contributions to topics such as phase transitions, spin glasses and magnetic ordering in materials. His current research interests include ultracold atomic systems and non-equilibrium physics, and explore phenomena as quantum thermalization and many body localization.

Information on the person:

Prof. David Huse obtained his PhD degree from Cornell University in 1993. He then worked at the Bell Laboratories, first at AT&T, then at Lucent Technologies. In 1996 he was appointed professor of physics at Princeton University. He has been elected Fellow of the American Physical Society, Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. During his career he has published more than 200 articles in peer-reviewed journals, primarily in theoretical condensed matter physics. Olivia Meyer-Streng
