Florian Egli talks about: Carrier Revival in Long Trapped-Ion Chains

In trapped ions, the laser–ion interaction couples the internal states to the ion motion through photon recoil. The spectrum contains a recoil-free carrier transition (red dot) and sidebands detuned by integer multiples of the trap frequency. Outside the Lamb–Dicke regime, the transition strength is spread across many sidebands. We describe a carrier revival effect in long ion chains, offering a new path to the Lamb–Dicke regime in Paul traps.

Nathaniel Leitao talks about: Nanoscale magnetometry via collective many-body dynamics in diamond

Many-body dynamics can generate correlations useful for quantum-enhanced sensing but realizing gains in practical settings remains challenging. I will review recent developments culminating in enhanced nanoscale magnetometry with thousands of atom-like defects in a room-temperature solid. Our results herald deployment of interaction-enhanced quantum sensors, and open a path to beyond-standard-quantum-limited precision measurement in solid-state.
