Do you ever wonder about the quantum electrodynamics aspects of strong laser–matterinteractions? Strong field phenomena have fascinated scientists since the emergence of highpowerlasers more than half a century ago, providing a foundation for research in atomic, molecular, and optical physics, as well as in attosecond science, nonlinear optics, and ultrafastoptoelectronics.

Although classical electromagnetic descriptions have long been sufficient,
recent developments in fully quantized approaches are opening new perspectives. This
seminar discusses ongoing efforts to describe intense laser–atom interactions from a
quantized-field viewpoint. We focus on the generation of high-photon-number entangled
coherent states and coherent-state superpositions—phenomena inaccessible to semiclassical
theories. Applying this framework to processes such as high-harmonic generation and abovethreshold
ionization reveals new mechanisms beyond classical understanding. Finally, we
explore the extension of these ideas to complex materials and their potential relevance to
emerging quantum technologies, outlining a path that connects attosecond physics with
quantum information science.
