Abstract :

Resurgence refers to a mathematical framework to learn about the non-perturbative sector of many physical theories by means of trans-series. It helps relate the instanton solutions of the problem to the asymptotic series that arises from perturbation theory. While it is starting to gain a lot of traction within the QFT community, I will provide an introduction to this framework by means of simple ODEs and one of the most basic settings in which it appears in quantum mechanics, the quartic harmonic potential. I got introduced to this from a workshop in non-perturbative QFT, and thought it would be interesting to bring it over to our group in an analogously introductory way. [I promise there will be no fields involved in this talk]
