Nathalie Nagl is the "Female Physicist of the Week”

It is only the 26th week of 2021 and yet another MPQ physicist has been named “female physicist of the week.” MPQ congratulates Nathalie Nagl, postdoctoral student in the Attosecond division!

The initiative, conceived of by the German Physical Society and curated by Ulrike Böhm, aims to give more visibility to female physicists. Since 2018, the section once a week presents the career and research focus of the “female physicist of the week”.

Starting with her Ph.D. thesis, Nathalie Nagl has continuously pushed the frontiers of high-repetition-rate femtosecond laser sources. She aims to generate highly intense few-cycle pulses at exotic wavelengths in the mid-infrared spectral region. With her experimental findings, Nathalie has pioneered a new generation of highly compact and low-noise laser systems that will be used to analyze minuscule variations in the infrared response of body fluids and thereby identify — non-invasively — early signs of illnesses such as cancer (Lasers4Life project).

“I am very honored to have been selected as “female physicist of the week” by the DPG. I understand the award not only as a recognition of my work in the field of femtosecond laser physics, but also as a great motivation for our contribution to the early detection of cancer," Nathalie comments on the award. "Furthermore, the “female physicist of the week” initiative underscores the fact that there is a steadily growing number of talented female physicists who work with great dedication and pleasure on their research projects.”

Congratulations to this weeks female physicist, Nathalie Nagl!
