APS honours Vladislav S. Yakovlev as outstanding referee

February 27, 2019

The American Physical Society APS honours Vladislav S. Yakovlev, a scientist working in the Laboratory for Attosecond Physics at the Max Planck Institute of Quantum Optics, as an outstanding referee. This lifetime award is given annually to scientists in recognition of their exceptionally helpful support in assessing manuscripts for publication in the APS journals.

The effort of the volunteers in peer review does not only keep the standards at a high level, but also helps the authors to improve the quality and the readability of their articles. This year, the APS editors have selected Vladislav S. Yakovlev and 142 other volunteers out of 71.000 active referees based on the quality, number, and timeliness of their reports since 1978 without regard for membership in the APS, country of origin, or field of research. The Outstanding Referee program was instituted in 2008.

On the person

After finishing his doctoral work at the Vienna University of Technology in 2003, Vladislav S. Yakovlev continued his research at the Ludwig Maximilians University (LMU) Munich, where he acquired his habilitation degree in 2014. In 2005, he led his first research project at the Max Planck Institute of Quantum Optics. After a two-year career step as a senior postdoctoral researcher at the Center for Nano-Optics at the Georgia State University in Atlanta (USA) he returned in 2016 as staff researcher to the Max Planck Institute of Quantum Optics. Since this time, he has been doing research in the field of attosecond physics with a focus on ultrafast electron dynamics in solids. In 2018, he received a prize for his innovative teaching at the LMU (LMU Lehrinnovationspreis).
