Colloquia

The MPQ Colloquium is held on Tuesdays at 2:30 pm.
The MCQST Colloquium takes place on Tuesdays at 2:00 pm.

The talks will take place in Herbert Walther Lecture Hall. Details on how to participate online are distributed via the mailing lists [wiss-mpq] and [Mpq-colloquium-stream]. To receive this information, please register using the attached link.

Scientific organization of the talks:  Dr. Stephan Dürr and Prof. Thomas Udem

Precision measurements of the Rydberg spectra of H, He and H2 will be presented, which aim at determining their ionization energies and, in the case of H2, also the spin-rovibrational energy-level structure of H2+. These measurements are carried out for comparison with the results of first-principles calculations that include the treatment of finite-nuclear-size effects and relativistic and quantum-electrodynamics corrections up to high order in the fine-structure constant. “Single-spin magnetic resonance using microwave photon counting” (Prof. Patrice Bertet)

Electron Spin Resonance (ESR) spectroscopy characterizes paramagnetic impurities in a sample for chemistry, biology, and material sciences. We have developed a novel ESR detection method that reaches single spin sensitivity, using a microwave photon counter based on a superconducting qubit at millikelvin temperatures. [more]
