Workshop on Microcavities in Quantum Optics
September 21-24, 2004, Ringberg Castle (lake Tegernsee), Bavaria, Germany
Objectives Speakers Schedule Registration Venue Contact

The conference site: Ringberg Castle

The workshop starts with laboratory visits at the MPI for Quantum Optics (MPQ) in Garching near Munich on Tuesday, September 21, in the afternoon. A shuttle bus to Ringberg deserving Munich airport at 5 p.m. and the MPQ at 5:30 p.m. will be organized. The MPQ can be reached as follows:

  • by plane: from Munich airport, take either the S-Bahn S1 to Neufahrn and then the bus 690 to the bus stop "Boltzmannstrasse", which is in front of the institute, or take the S8 to Ismaning and the bus 230 to the same busstop (see below). The MVV provides schedules for the U-Bahn, S-Bahn and the buses.
  • by train: from Munich main station, take an S-Bahn to the Marienplatz. From there, take the U-Bahn U6 to Garching Hochbrück, and hop on the Bus 291. Leave again at the bus stop "Boltzmannstrasse". Close to the bus stop, the main street makes a 90º turn. In the corner, a small pathway crossing a little brook leads to the MPQ, which is well-hidden behind the trees.
  • by car: leave the Autobahn A9 at the exit "Garching Nord" and follow the signs to the research institutes, in German "Forschungsinstitute". Once on the campus, follow the signs to the Max-Planck-Institut für Quantenoptik.

The shuttle back to Munich leaves Ringberg on Friday, September 24, at 1:30 p.m. (after lunch). It will stop at the airport and at the MPQ. Flights from 5 p.m. on will be safely reached. For those travelling by train, arrangements will be made to reach the Munich main station around 3:30 p.m.
