The new idea consists in exploiting the optical field itself to control the properties of crystals and nanostructures. With this approach, it becomes possible to access phenomena occurring within an oscillation of light as benchmarked by three experiments.

We present our latest results for a new class of quantum phenomena in condensed matter nanooptics when a strong, single-oscillation optical field ∼1 V/Å induces changes in a solid, which are defined by its topological properties.
