The Max Planck Institute of Quantum Optics and the King Saud University

  In January 2008 a delegation of high-ranking politicians and leading scientists from Saudi Arabia accompanied the Saudi Arabic Minister of Higher Education, Dr. Khalid bin Mohammed Al-Angari, on his visit to the Max Planck Institute of Quantum Optics. This was the initial step of a future long-term cooperation in the fields of Laser Technologies, Nanotechnology, Quantum Technologies, Energy and Power Technologies, Electronics and Photonics. The MPQ-KSU cooperation is part of the KSU Nobel program that aims at promoting novel technologies in the Saudi Arabic society.

  Prof. Ferenc Krausz, Managing Director at MPQ, concluded the agreement on the 16th of January 2008 with Professor Abdullah Al Othman, the principal of the King Saud University. The cooperation aims at promoting the research partnership in the field of applied physics, particularly as concerns lasers and the nanotechnologies. At MPQ especially the Laser Spectroscopy Division of Nobel Laureate Professor Theodor Hänsch and the Attosecond and High-field Physics Division of Prof. Krausz are involved in this cooperation.

 

  In a first step outstanding scientists and PhD students from the King Saud University will work together with MPQ scientists on the development of novel radiation sources for coherent ultrashort intense light pulses.Leading scientist from King Saud University is Prof. Dr. Abdallah Azzeer.
