Beam Plasma & Inertial Fusion Section (BP&IF)
Annual Report 2004/05
EPS Plasma Physics Conferences and
IFSA
The Beam Plasma &
Inertial Fusion section has been founded within the EPS Plasma Physics Division
( http://plasma.ciemat.es/
) in 2001. The goal is to give the plasma physics related to high power
beams and inertial confinement fusion a firm basis within the European
Physical Society and to contribute to the EPS Plasma Physics Conferences.
We consider the EPS Plasma Physics Conferences as the central meeting place
of the BP&IF community in Europe.
We have gradually built up this effort over the last four years, organizing
special sessions within the EPS conferences on Madeira in 2001, at Montreux
in 2002, at St. Petersburg in 2003, and finally at London in 2004
and at Tarragona in 2005. We are presently working on the conference at
Rome in 2006 (http://eps2006.frascati.enea.it/
), and are discussing Warsaw
as the venue for 2007.
The BP&IF Section takes
a leading role in the organisation of the EPS Plasma Conferences, as it
is evident from the recent conferences in London and Tarragona and the upcoming
ones in Rome and Warsaw:

Other BP&IF Activities in 2004/2005
- Representation of European Beam Plasma and Inertial Fusion Physics
within the Plasma Physics Division (PPD, our present PPD members:
D. Batani, S. Jacquemot, J. Meyer-ter-Vehn, B. Sharkov) of the European
Physical Society (EPS, newly elected member of EPS council: V.
Malka).
- International contacts to Plasma Physics Societies APS (USA)
and JSPF (Japan), proposing invited speakers for main conferences.
- Partcipation in nomination and selection of Hannes-Alfven Prize
candidates and creation of new Best-PhD-Thesis prize
in 2005 (first proposed by BPIF section).
- Creation and maintenance of BPIF webpage (
http:// www.mpq,mpg.de/BPIF/
) with links to major centres of BPIF research in Europe and worldwide,
BPIF-related conferences, BPIF mailing lists.
- Support of smaller BPIF-related conferences and workshops as well
as EU-sponsored networks, funding, and travel money for young researchers.
